The Future of Advertising: Inside YouTube’s Innovative Ad Strategy

Category: YouTube TV

YouTube is testing the removal of the circular timer that appears before users can skip an ad on both desktop and mobile platforms.

While ads are a major source of revenue for YouTube creators, users are increasingly frustrated by the proliferation of ads on the platform.

Soon, YouTube ads may follow you even if you’ve already watched the first few seconds.

According to Android Police, the countdown timer before users can skip an ad appears to be disappearing.

Last week, some YouTube users noticed a blank space or gray rectangle covering the timer on the desktop version.

The same test has also appeared on YouTube for Android. The main difference from the desktop experience is that, instead of a rectangle, the countdown timer has completely disappeared.

Despite the lack of a countdown timer, the “Skip Ad” button still appears after a certain amount of time.

Android Police notes that this seems to be a deliberate move by YouTube to make users believe that the ad is unskippable due to the absence of a visible skip button.
