TPA 2 (Televisão Pública de Angola 2) is an Angolan public television channel operated by the state broadcaster Televisão Pública de Angola (TPA). It was launched on August 15, 2000, initially broadcasting in an experimental phase limited to Luanda, with programming mainly consisting of repeats from TPA 1 and some imported content.
Over time, TPA 2 expanded its coverage across Angola, including provinces like Cabinda, Benguela, Huambo, and Huíla. The channel was managed under the administration of Semba Comunicações starting in 2008, which brought in original productions and helped create TPA Internacional. During this period, TPA 2 gained recognition for airing Angolan telenovelas such as Windeck, which was the first Angolan telenovela to be exported overseas and even received an Emmy nomination.
In terms of programming, TPA 2 focuses on entertainment and youth-oriented content, distinguishing itself from TPA 1, which is more generalist with information, fiction, and entertainment. TPA 2 aims to promote Angolan culture and values, offering a diverse range of shows including news, current affairs, documentaries, sports, and cultural programs. It also serves as a platform for Angolans living abroad to stay connected with their homeland.
The channel broadcasts in Portuguese and is available over-the-air within Angola, as well as via satellite, cable, and streaming services targeting Portuguese-speaking countries. TPA 2 has played a significant role in showcasing Angola's rich culture, history, and social-economic developments globally, and it also features programming from other Portuguese-speaking broadcasters to provide a wider variety of content.
In January 2018, TPA 2 underwent a rebranding with a new identity and programming lineup, after some controversies and changes in management related to its previous administration under Semba Comunicações. The channel continues to be a key part of Angola's public broadcasting landscape alongside its sister channels TPA 1, TPA Notícias, and TPA Internacional.
