Fana TV (also known as FBC TV) is a prominent television channel based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, operating under the Fana Media Corporation (FMC). Originally starting as a radio station back in 1994, it made history in 2017 by becoming the first broadcaster in Ethiopia to launch a full HD studio and transmission. While Amharic is the primary language, the channel also broadcasts in Afan Oromo, Tigrigna, Arabic, and English to reach a diverse audience.
The channel's content is built around three main pillars: news, entertainment, and local culture. Some of its most popular programs include the "Fana 90" news bulletin, cooking shows, talent competitions, and locally produced dramas. Unlike many competitors that rely on dubbed foreign content, Fana TV sets itself apart with an extensive network of correspondents across the country, focusing heavily on local news and national development stories.
Today, Fana TV reaches about 17 million households through satellite platforms like Ethiosat and the DStv service across Africa. Beyond traditional TV, they are very active on digital platforms like YouTube and social media to stay connected with younger viewers. Following a major merger in December 2024, Fana TV is now part of Ethiopia’s largest state-controlled media group and has expanded its international reach by joining the TV BRICS content network.
