History

The idea of a Telugu Christian television channel was first conceived in the early 2000s. The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) formed a committee to study the feasibility of such a project. The committee submitted a report in 2007 recommending that the CBCI proceed with the project.

In 2008, the CBCI established Divyavani Social Communications, a non-profit company, to manage the channel. The company applied for a license from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in 2013. The license was granted in 2015.

Divyavani TV was launched on August 31, 2016, in the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio to India, Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio.
