KHSL TV 12 signed on Aug. 26, 1953, under the ownership of the Golden Empire Broadcasting Company, which was led by Ruth "Mickey" McClung, one of the first women in the country to own a television station. The station remains the longest TV station in Northern California.
From the beginning as a local CBS affiliate, KHSL TV 12 has evolved, under shared services agreements, as a major television operation in Northern California. Under its one roof at its Silverbell Road location in Chico, KHSL TV 12 is also headquarters to NBC affiliate KNVN TV 24, as well as local CW and Telemundo affiliates.
Its transmitter is located in Cohasset, California. The station is now owned by California TV LLC, part of the Heartland Media Group.
