About University of Washington TV

University of Washington Television (UWTV) was a television channel owned and operated by the University of Washington. It was launched in 1981 and was available on cable and satellite in the Seattle area. UWTV broadcasts a variety of programming, including news, current affairs, sports, entertainment, and documentaries.

In 2016, the University of Washington announced that it would be ending funding for UWTV. The channel ceased broadcasting on December 31, 2016.

The University of Washington cited a number of reasons for ending funding for UWTV, including the changing television landscape and the increasing popularity of online streaming services. The university also said that it was no longer able to afford to produce high-quality content for the channel.

The decision to end funding for UWTV was met with criticism from some members of the university community. Some argued that the channel was a valuable resource for the university and the community. Others argued that the university should have explored other ways to fund the channel.

Despite the criticism, the University of Washington remained committed to its decision to end funding for UWTV. The university said that it would continue to provide video production services to the university community through its UW Video department.

Today, the University of Washington's video content is available online through a variety of sources, including YouTube, Amazon Fire TV, KOMO, KCTS, NWCN, and Pac-12 Networks.
