About TV Nacional Uruguay
TV Nacional Uruguay serves as a vital platform for the global Uruguayan community and offers a rich tapestry of programming that spans a wide range of interests, and provides a rich and diverse selection of captivating programs and content.
It was the first Uruguayan channel to obtain authorization to transmit (it was obtained in 1955) but it began broadcasting in 1963. In February of that year, it began with experimental transmissions, going on to broadcast regularly on June 19, 1963. Channel 5 changed its name in 2002 "TVEO", and in 2005 TNU (National Television of Uruguay).
It is the only Uruguayan channel to broadcast continuously 24 hours a day, mixing international programs (mainly imported from Argentina, Spain or England) with an increasingly consolidated national production. Its first director was Justino Zavala and the current director is Virginia Martínez.
