Telemilano was an Italian commercial television broadcaster founded in 1976 by Fininvest and which broadcast from Milano Due ; the activity of Telemilanocavo continued, a private cable television made two years before as a service channel for the inhabitants of the residential district Milano Due ; in 1978 it took the name Telemilano 58 and, in 1980, of Canale 5 .

In 2002 the name was taken over for a new regional television that acquired one of its frequencies, TeleMilano Più Blu.

Telemilanocavo was a cable television born on September 24th, 1974, a few months after the Constitutional Court ruling on Retebiella (July 1974) that had liberalized cable television broadcasts. The broadcaster was able to reach all the inhabitants of the residential neighborhood using the wiring already in the construction phase. In 1976 the Court also liberalized broadcasts over the air and Telemilanocavo, beginning to broadcast over the air, assumed the name of Telemilano.

It was founded by Giacomo Properzj in September 1974, together with party mate Alceo Moretti, as private cable television that used the channel available in the wired network present in Milan 2, a satellite city in the municipality of Segrate, near Milan. A few months earlier, in July 1974, the Constitutional Court [1] had affirmed the principle according to which the State can reserve the monopoly of circular broadcasting alone since radio frequencies are a limited good; private individuals can, therefore, transmit the television signal using any other technology. This cable television was the only viable and commercially viable alternative at the time.

Television broadcasted columns, information, and films for residents of Milan 2. The builder Silvio Berlusconi had decided not to plant television antennas on top of the buildings and the urbanists to whom he had entrusted himself, therefore, they had realized a wired network; of all the coaxial cables one was left free, through which the signal of the new station was transmitted.

In 1975 the Parliament approved the law of reorganization of the broadcasting system following the sentence of the Constitutional Court of the previous year. In parliament, the forces that defended the public monopoly were still predominant, so the law tried to limit the spaces for private broadcasting. The new law established that private individuals could operate only within the framework of a municipality or areas with no more than 150,000 inhabitants; furthermore, all cabling could be used by a single television dealer. Milano Due was instead wired with multichannel coaxial cable.

In 1976 the Constitutional Court authorized private televisions to broadcast over the air with a new ruling, as long as they always remained in the local area and this led to the transmission of transmissions from the cable to the ether, a much cheaper technology since it did not require cabling. Telemilanocavo, starting to broadcast over the air, in 1978, took the name of Telemilano.
