About Hakka TV
Founded in July 2003, the Hakka TV network in Taiwan is the voice of the Hakka people in Taiwan and overseas as well. The programs offered for broadcast let Hakka and non-Hakka viewers better appreciate and understand our culture. Among the shows we produce are dramas, programs for children and teenagers, lifestyle features, music shows, and news and interview programs.
The Hakka people are the most widely-distributed group of Chinese immigrants the world over and are often referred to as overseas Chinese.
According to estimates, the population of Hakka people worldwide is currently about 30 million, with over 4 million in Taiwan.
To create a TV channel for the Hakka people of Taiwan to express their various points of view and show others Hakka traditions and culture was an important undertaking, and the positive and heartwarming results are already on air.
In January 2007, after joining the Taiwan Broadcasting System in accordance with The ROC Act Governing the Wireless TV Business Government Shares, the Hakka TV network has created a strong public profile. In the future, we plan to move in two directions -- localization and globalization -- aiming at the Hakka voice to the world.
